Freeroll Poker Tournament

On Saturday I played the $5000 Bet365 Freeroll Poker Tournament.  I really like this game better than most freerolls at other poker sites.  It has a nice payout and not that many people play.

There were 6369 people who registered and I finished number 76, I was pretty happy with that I felt like I played a good game. Not too many really stupid mistakes.

The poker tournament starts you out with 1000 chips, I played for about a half hour staying about even then I got 4 4 and decided to go all in and steal the blinds.

The small blind and the big blind both called me. One had A,K suited the other had A,Q.  But my fours held up and I ended up with about 3000 in chips.

Your position makes more of a difference in a tournament game than a ring game.  The reason is that you have to be ready to push all your chips in to defend your position on any hand you play.

So you end up playing a lot fewer hands, especially the first 30 minutes of a freeroll when everyone is trying to see how fast they can bust out or rack up a ton of chips to play with.

About the middle of the game I was in second place with 49,000 chips.  I was getting good cards and playing them just right.

At that point I was getting tired and thought about just walking away and folding into some money, I may have even made the final table.

But then as luck would have it I start getting really good cards, A,K clubs.  The flop comes with 2 more clubs, and there is 4000 in the pot and the bet to me is 800, so of course I have pot odds on this bet.

I knew I was going to lose I don’t know why it always works that way but it seems like every time I am in that situation if I have odds to stay in I lose, if I don’t have pot odds and I fold then I would have won.

I put in my 800 and of course no club.

I have a lot of trouble trying to decide if I am trying to just coast into some money, or if I am playing all out to win.

It seems I do one for a while then the other and it never works out for me.

Oh well, over all I thought I played well and that’s about all I can ask for from a Freeroll Poker Tournament.
