How Much Money to Take to a Limit Poker Game - part 3

So playing a $1/$2 limit poker game I used all the $89.00 I had on the table, which is always a bad idea.

But the thing is I was not playing that aggressively, I had AA and all small cards were coming out on the board, two guys were going crazy until the end and it was myself and a guy with KK, I never raised once, just called to the river.  So it’s not like I was going wild and creating these swings, or even adding to them much.

I could have risked more money by raising more, but that would have taken a bigger bank roll, and as you can see my bankroll was stretched very very thin.

The main reason you never want to play with out having a good sized bankroll is that poker is a game where you lose a lot of little hands then you make it back up with your big wins.

So if you have $5.00 left and you get a royal flush, and someone else gets a king high flush or a full house. You’re only going to make $5 bucks off them when you need to make a lot more to cover all those blinds that you lost.

I have only been dealt a royal flush one time, and there was another guy who had the king high straight flush.  If I would have run out of money while he was still betting I would have been really really pissed off.

So just don’t play unless you have enough money at the table to cover all the bets when you get the nuts and someone is betting into you.
