Losing Is The Best You Can Do Sometimes
There are times when the best you can do playing poker is to lose 15 big blinds in an hour.
I just played for an hour and did pretty good even though on one table I am down 15 big blinds.
The first hand no one bet so in last position I bet and 6 people call. That was a little aggressive on my part to bet with nothing, but I just thought I would check to see what would happen since I didn’t know anything about the table.
After a few hands I figure out that there are 3 or 4 players who will call anything to the river, so bluffing is basically out at this table.
Then there are several pre-flop raisers, so this is turning out to be my least favorite type of table. I probably should just go to another table, but I happen to have $40 that I am playing with instead of my usual $25 so on a .50/$1 table I have enough money to play at this type of table.
Basically what this does is makes your losses and your wins much larger. Instead of winning 10 $2.00 pots I am going to win 1 $20.00 pot. So the trick is to just be patient until I have some really good cards and can connect on the flop.
On this type of table when you play for over an hour and get no good cards the trick is to just quietly take your losses and keep waiting, or get off the table - like I did.
Towards the end I got dealt AA and this turned out to be one of the only hands that only one person called to the river.
The board was K Q J 10 2 so I split the pot with a guy playing A 9.
I notice at one point I am looking at J 5 suited and trying to figure out if I can play it. That’s how bad my cards where for the hour, then I kind of come to my senses and fold since I am in early position.
