Just Changed They Way I Play Tournaments
I am playing a tournament now at poker333. When I am playing to clear their bonus I also qualify for all the 3 $1000 freerolls. If I don’t get knocked out right away it does take some time.
One game took almost 4 hours yesterday.
This morning my first hand I get AA, I bet 400 someone raises me so I go all-in.
They have 77 and of course they hit a 7 on the river – so I tell him “thank you.”
The guy is surprised and says he is sorry, so I explain that I appreciate him taking me out on the first hand because it probably saved several hours of my time, and it is a much better way to go out than to play for 3 hours then get busted out.
I am doing a couple other things while I am playing this tournament and I have finished clearing my bonus so I don’t have any ring games going.
Thinking about playing these poker tournaments there is really two options.
- Play real conservative and try and limp into the money
- Play kind of wild and go for the win
To win you have to be rather aggressive with your play, which leads to you getting busted a lot.
But I was just thinking that most of the money is paid to the first few places. In this tournament it pays the first 80 positions. But an 80 place finish will get you $3.00 the first place finish will get you $250.
I would have to win more than 83 games to match a single first place finish.
I just changed my mind about trying to be conservative. I think I can play a wild game and win this thing once ever 83 games. Or at least get a couple finishes at the final table.
