Bankroll Management
I have just played my 6th losing session, so now I am starting to wonder about how much I can lose.
Many sites say that you need a bankroll of 300 big bets, if your playing $4/$8 limit that would be $2400
The only problem with that is that I have lost 800 big bets playing online when I know I was playing good solid winning poker, I just had a bad streak where everyone was hitting their one or two outer on the river, over and over again.
So if your lucky then maybe 300 big bets will work for a bankroll, if your like me and not so lucky, then I think you need something over 800, probably around 1000 big bets would work.
I was just reading about a professional player who said they have swings of over 250 big bets in one session, and they can have bad months.
I also think that a limit for each session is a good thing to have, I am currently starting out with 20 big blinds, and I don't rebuy if I lose them all then I just leave.
I need to come up with a new rule about when to quit, because I have noticed that when I get under around 8 big blinds then I always seem to waste away my remaining chips.
Not to mention that if I flopped a royal flush and had several players betting into me it would be really painful to leave all that extra money on the table just because I let myself get short stacked.
I think they cap the betting where I play at 4 bets on each round, so that means you can put a total of 12 big bets in the pot on any one hand, so I should never let my chip stack get under this amount.
On the $4/$8 tables that would be $96, if I go under this amount then I should rebuy or leave the game.
This would also keep me from looking at my chips and worrying about how much I have left, or making decision based on my chip count. The last time I only had 8 chips left so I just put them all in with a marginal had just because that all I had left, this was a waste of $8.
One thing I learned playing online was that if your looking at your chip stack then your probably not playing your best game because your decisions to play should be based only on your cards, not how many chips you do or don't have left.
